Local elections have a huge impact on our lives, and as Union members we know the importance of casting our vote. We, the UFCW 3000 Member Endorsement Committee, interview candidates from all over the region about how they will be the strongest allies for working people and their families.

UFCW 3000's Political Action Advisory Committee, which meets monthly, is open-invite to any member who wants to be involved in the political and legislative work of our Union. This year, our committee met with dozens of candidates for local offices up for election in 2023. Our endorsement process includes the following steps:

  1. Every candidate who wants our endorsement fills out a candidate questinonaire.

  2. After satisfactorily filling out the online questionnaire, we schedule the interview with our member committee.

  3. The PAAC member committee then makes a recommendation to our elected leadership about whether or not to endorse the candidate.

  4. The member committee takes into consideration the following factors when deciding whether or not to endorse a candidate:

    • The candidate's responses on the questionnaire

    • The candidate's responses in the interview.

    • The viability of the candidate (do they have a plan to win, and do they have the resources to execute that plan).

    • Finally, if the candidate is an incumbent or has served in another office, we look closely at the voting record of that candidate.

Below are the recommendations of the Political Action Advisory Committee for local offices up for election in 2023:
