UFCW 21 - A Voice for Working America

Workers Join Together At 12 Informational Pickets

Workers were joined by family and community supporters at 12 simultaneous informational pickets on July 3rd. The actions took place throughout Puget Sound (from Lynden near the Canadian border to Tacoma, from Bremerton to North Bend and eight other locations in between – see a snap shot series below). The purpose of the events was to show we are standing together, and to connect with our customers to talk about the contract negotiations.

In addition to connecting with customers at the stores, the actions generated local news coverage from weekly newspapers to the big Seattle TV networks.

Actions Follow Another Day of Negotiations

The string of informational pickets followed another day of bargaining on July 2. Unfortunately, at the session, the big national grocery chains continued to stick to their proposals to eliminate health care coverage for anyone working less than 30 hours a week and to offer no real wage increases.

Contract extension in place through July 11.

UFCW 21, UFCW 367 and Teamsters 38 are getting a block of tickets and members are coming out early to leaflet fans about our current grocery store workers contract negotiations.

Come out and leaflet between 6:00pm – 7:00pm and then watch the game.
